Senior Session Planning Starts with the Right Location

Looking for the perfect location for senior portraits in Yakima or the Tri-Cities?

Whether you're dreaming of a rustic orchard, mountain views, or a downtown edge, the Yakima Valley and surrounding areas offer a variety of beautiful backdrops, and yes, we can even get that woodsy, forested look with just a short drive.

These are my top favorite spots for high school senior photos in Central Washington, curated with both style and accessibility in mind.

🍎 1. Orchards & Vineyards (Yakima Valley)

The Yakima Valley is known for its orchards and they make a gorgeous, timeless setting for senior portraits. Apple, cherry, and peach trees offer:

Clean lines and symmetry
Gorgeous blooms in spring (April–May)
Warm tones and full fruit in late summer/early fall

Outfit Tip: Soft neutrals or deep colors (like navy, burgundy, or cream) pop beautifully here.

🏙️ 2. Downtown Yakima or Kennewick

Want something modern, urban, or even a little edgy? Downtown cores in Yakima or Kennewick offer:

Brick walls and alleyways
Bold colors and murals
Industrial textures or window reflections

This is perfect if you want to show off a bold personality, trendy outfit, or city style. It also works great as a second location to contrast with something more natural.

🌾 3. Rural Fields, Farms & Hillsides

Open spaces with tall grasses, fences, barns, and wide skies are easy to find in the areas just outside of Yakima and Tri-Cities. These spots offer a soft, earthy, calm feel that’s perfect for:

Casual or country-inspired looks
Athletes who want action shots
Seniors who just feel more themselves in wide open space

Some of my favorite shoots have taken place on our own families property, which adds a one of a kind feel, only available to my clients!

🌲 4. Forest Vibes in the Naches Area

If you’re looking for that woodsy, Northwest-style backdrop, you don’t have to go far. Within about 45–60 minutes of Yakima are some incredible spots near Naches, White Pass, and Oak Creek, with:

Pine-lined trails and riverbanks
Golden light through the trees
A cooler, lush atmosphere that feels like an escape

Best season: Late spring through early October, depending on weather and snow.

🌊 5. River Views & Hillsides (Tri-Cities)

For seniors from Richland, Kennewick, or Pasco, there are also some stunning sessions near:

The Columbia River (for clean, soft backdrops and water reflections)
The Horse Heaven Hills (with golden light and wide, epic views)

These spots are perfect for seniors who want a more dramatic or elegant feel without needing to travel far.
