What to Wear - Fall Senior Pictures in the Yakima Valley

Fall is one of the most photogenic seasons in Yakima and what you wear can make a big impact on the look and feel of your senior session. If you’re dreaming of rich colors, cozy textures, and glowy orchard light, this post will help you choose the perfect outfit and accessories for timeless photos.

Outfit Tip #1: Choose Earth Tones or Muted Jewel Colors

The fall landscape in the Yakima Valley leans warm...think gold leaves, red apples, brown grasses. These colors pair beautifully with:

Mustard yellow
Burnt orange
Olive green
Deep burgundy
Soft neutrals like cream or camel

✨ Example: One of my seniors wore a burnt orange skirt, neutral top and boots, while roaming around the Yakima Sportsman State Park. The color made her pop and felt totally in season without overpowering the scene.

Outfit Tip #2: Mix Textures (But Keep it Simple)

You don’t need to overdo it — but hats, scarves, or statement jewelry can elevate your outfit and add variety to your poses. Bonus: they give you something to do with your hands!

✨ Yazmine brought a mustard yellow kimono with fringe for her senior session. GREAT texture and...it paired well with the fall colors and the golden light you get that time of year.

Outfit Tip #3: Accessorize with Personality

Chunky knits, denim jackets, suede boots, or flowy cardigans add depth to your photos. Choose 1–2 textured pieces per outfit.

📷 A senior named Jennifer layered a knit cardigan over a light pink tee — photographed outside of Toppenish. The textures looked dreamy in the late afternoon/evening light. We even added a blanket for a little extra depth.

Bonus Tips:

Avoid busy patterns or neon colors...they’ll distract from your face
Plan for 2 outfits: one dressy, one casual (I’ll help time the swap!)
Bring comfy shoes for walking between locations...soo helpful!
